January Roundup (pending)

Read some big good books this month
Me and my roommate/bff read this one together which was delightful. It was a long one (900 pages wow) so it took a while. I also have a habit of reading 3 books at once so that dragged it out a bit.
I have been reading this since AUGUST and finally finished this month. I've been bouncing between reading and listening, which is kinda fun. I realized I read two long-ass books about pairs of twin brothers which is cool I guess. I loooove biblical allusions too so this was a treat!!!! I wish it were 10000 pages so I could read it forever and ever. I read Grapes of Wrath in high school, but I read it in a day during quarantine to prove to myself that I could and retained very little of it, so maybe I should try again. Timshel!
Eamonn got me Minecraft for my switch for Christmas and I've been playing way too much to still be this bad at it. I keep getting killed because I fumble with the controller while trying to close the door. Hopefully I get better soon because it's really quite fun.
I had this one on hold at the library for 6 months and finally got it! I loooove Miranda July. Kajillionaire and Me and You and Everyone We Know are some of my favorite movies. I have only read her short fiction, so this was so wonderful to get into. It reminded me a lot of Mellissa Broder's books, with the unusal highly sexual female protaganist. I love characters like her! I do wonder how much was based on July -- her level of fame and multimedia success seemed a little on the nose. This is from the perspective of a 23-year-old, but I love reading books about weird, lively, older women. Someday I want to be like her, without all the infidelity.
5.5/10
Watched this with my girlssssss. It was fun and stupid but a good time and it went by really fast.
Eamonn and I are watching Silo and I am so into it!!! This is the most I've seen Eamonn be into a show -- we even watched 2 hour long episodes in one day which is crazy for him. When we were watching the pilot he said "i love this show it's like... video game vibes" which killed me.

Ending the year strongggg
I honestly didn't read or watch much this month. I was definitely on my phone too much. ≽(•⩊ •マ≼
9.5/10 woohoo
I finally read the Pisces, which I LOVED. I have now read all of Broder's novels which is making me really sad because I wish I had 10 more to read. This one was as delightful as the other two. I am very fascinated by the concept of sex and love addiction, and felt like I related a lot to the protaganist of this one.
a tough 2/10 unfortunately
I also read this one, which was more timely than I ever thought it would be. The author is currently at the center of online discourse after writing an artical about Brigitte Bardot's politics following her death this month. I unfortunately did not like this book at all. It was written like a college paper, which is fine, but not what I wanted. There were many ridiculously long quotes from other books which was annoying because we were promised a memoir. I am, however, on her side in regards to the other stuff. People are attacking her on the grounds of being a fat person writing for Vogue which is crazy.
Still watching Nurse Jackie. I love it so much. I don't have access to my parents' netflix anymore, so I get the DVDs from the library which feels very analog and quaint. I feel connected to all the other women (probably) who have watched each DVD.
Saw this one... and looooved it. I went with my aunt on a Monday night, and the theater was packed! The only two talkers in the whole theater were in the seats on either side of us, which seems to always happen to me. It was less stressful than Uncut Gems and Good Time, but still plenty stressful. I have been on the timmy bandwagon since seeing Lady Bird twice in theaters, and he's still the best, though I miss his softer 2018 energy.
Eamonn and I are watching the Harry Potter series. We've gotten to number 5 so far. He read the books, but has never seen the films and has forgetting the plot of all of them, which has made the rewatch delightful. He really doesn't like movies much, so it's really exciting to find something he actually enjoys watching with me :).
